Marsh Lake Community Society

Established in 1986 as the Marsh Lake Community Club, a new constitution was adopted in 2002 to expand the boundaries and focus the mandate of the group.

The Marsh Lake Community Society is recognized by the Yukon Government and the Marsh Lake LAC as the official organization for Sport and Recreation for the community of Marsh Lake. This gives the Society the responsibility of managing government funding for the recreation needs and interests of the residents.

Meetings: The Society meets at the Marsh Lake Fire Hall on Doehle Drive in the Judas Creek sub division the last Wednesday of every odd numbered month. Everyone is welcome to attend. Membership is established by registering at the meeting, and there is no fee to become a member.

Currently there are many project specific committees:

  • Ski Loppett. This annual event brings 100s of cross-country skiers to Marsh Lake. It is a major fundraiser for the Society and takes dozens of volunteers to orchestrate.
  • Ice Rink. Newly built in 2000, the Marsh Lake Ice Rink committee has been able to add lights, a warm-up shed, and this year new puck board and leveling work is taking place. Thanks to funding from Yukon Lotteries
  • Playgrounds. Construction will be completed in 2002 of the new park and playground located in New Constabulary. This has truly been a joint effort with many hours of volunteer time, and funding from YTG Sport and Rec, Yukon Lotteries, Whitehorse Lions Club and the Marsh Lake Community Society. The next project for this committee is the relocation and renovation of the Judas Creek playground.
  • Planning Committee. A comprehensive survey of Marsh Lake residents and lot owners is being completed in the summer of 2002. This report will provide direction for all future projects planned in the community.
  • Social Events. These include a children's Halloween party and Christmas party (done in partnership with the Marsh Lake Fire Rescue Society) and the annual adult Christmas dinner and dance. The silent auction is another strong fund raiser for the Society.

Recent Events

  • In September 2002 the first annual Super Duper Yard Sale drew over 100 buyers with donations provided by over 20 Marsh Lake households. (over $1,000 raised)
  • In partnership with Yukon College, volunteers built a storage shed to house the snowmobile and other recreation equipment.
