Marsh Lake Fire Rescue History

The Marsh Lake Volunteer fire department was founded in 1989 to provide basic dwelling fire protection for the residents and visitors to Marsh Lake.

 Today the department has over 20 volunteer members and includes a complete medical response team and ambulance, 1 pumper truck, 1 tanker truck and a fast response truck capable of attending to dwelling fires, forest fires, vehicle extrication and other accident needs.

 The department also houses a rescue boat and snowmobile for accident and search and rescue.

 Fire Hall Facts: Located on Doehle Drive in the Judas Creek subdivision of Marsh Lake. The original 2 bay Fire hall was expanded to 4 bays in 1999. The Fire hall also provides water service for the residents, as well as utilizing the training room for community meetings.

 Area: Marsh Lake Fire Rescue services the area from the Yukon River Bridge south to Jakes Corners. This includes over 400 homes and cabins stretched out along the shores of Marsh Lake. In addition, Marsh Lake is a partner in the Mutual Aid system with Mt. Lorne, Whitehorse and Tagish Fire departments.

 Practice: Fire practice and training is held the 2nd and 4th Tuesday of every month, with 1 or 2 monthly medical training days. Recent training includes: basic first aid, oxygen therapy, EMR, EMT, infant/child CPR, CPR re-certification, as well as training on equipment and procedures.

 Marsh Lake Fire Rescue is supported by the Marsh Lake Fire Rescue Society, a registered society to organize fund raising efforts.
