Marsh Lake Emergency Services Society Meeting

Chief's Report: Jurgen reported on Moe H. and Anne Williams donation.  We had a quiet year in 2007 (accident-wise). At present a Fire fighter course was being taught. Jurgen recounted the concerns about liability issues raised at the Fire Chiefs conference in Dawson City last fall. The latest FireSmart efforts were discussed.

Motion: Start next FireSmart application process for $45,000 or more. Motion by Ed Shiffkorn, seconded by Diane Lister. PASSED.

 Jurgen: YT Fire Service Community update group has been started.  Issues of liability,SOPs for all departments, safety training, facilities, fire halls, staffing and support and admin stuff. They will report by of February 2008. Hopefully implementation of policy by October 2008. By early this spring we should hear more about Fire department on call status. New computer with internet connection at the firehall.  Firefighter training broken into 3 segments: Basic, 1 and 2. New tanker for Marsh Lake.  We need a wish list by end of June.  Jurgen asked at the Dawson AGM to place a placard/sticker to show the location of seat belt and stored energy devices in new vehicles in Canada (for first responders safety).

Irv (Medical Report):  We are part of a group of 14 other communities. At the Fall Supervisor's meeting there was a skills competition.  Marsh Lake Fire Rescue was given the Bruce Harder award (for service during last year's flood). Diane and Eileen were our team members. At the Supervisor's meeting: negotiating with ambulance issues in the communities. Dawson and Watson Lake were on strike at the same time. Both departments were put under Protective Services Brand of YG. Barry Kid supervisor, Susan Kahn administrator.  Overall pay increase for volunteers. A $.50 increase will come in April (on call pay), followed by another later on in the year. Issues of training (60k bursary), who is accepted for training, and which community.  There will be $20k for awards, time in, special awards.  A new ongoing negotiating committee has been formed.  The Supervisors group for communities will meet on an ongoing basis.

Lisa (Financial Report): There is approximately $9,000 in the bank.

Motion: Request new address maps from YG. Motion by Diane Lister, seconded by Ed Shiffkorn. PASSED.

New Mail box: Change of address cards need to be made for MLFR and Emergency Services. Jurgen to check with Kevin about forwarding mail.

Motion: Barry Watson nominated as Marsh Lake Emergency Services Society Vice President. Motion by Donna Larsen, seconded by Ed Shiffkorn.  PASSED.
