WHITEHORSE - Peter Milner, the "heart and soul" of Whitehorse's bid to host the 2007 Canada Winter Games has died.
Milner was the Yukon government's director for sport and recreation, and more recently the project manager for the Canada Winter Games.
He died Wednesday of non-Hodgkins lymphoma.
Co-worker Karen Thomson says Milner worked almost 15 years to bring the Canada Games to the Yukon.
"Peter Milner was an icon in our community in the sport and recreation area, and more recently in the arts with his banjo playing," she says.
"He was instrumental in bringing the Canada Games to the Yukon. He started that process back in 1991 and he's the heart and soul of the Canada Games coming to the Yukon."
Milner was also responsible for organizing the popular Marsh Lake Cross Country Ski Loppet.
